There’s something wrong with the current anti-Trump movement.

No, I’m not talking about those who genuinely found it a matter of principle during the election to oppose Trump. I’m talking about the present cabal of “right wing” anti-Trump media stars who, fair or not, now make up the face of the movement.

They follow a predictable pattern. After barely warranting an appearance once a month on their respective networks, they realized that if they became vehement Trump critics, it meant much more TV time, lots of pats on the head, and fresh invites to the D.C. cocktail circuit. Jennifer Rubin, Ann Navarro, David Frum, David Brooks, Bret Stephens, et al.

Most of them had a clearly contrived moment where they virtuously announced they are no longer Republicans (or will no longer support the party) on Twitter and their respective outlets. This is then echoed by the media, making it seem as if it’s some earthshaking shock of great importance.

The other part of their transformation is that they become Trump critics at all costs. Did they once oppose the Iran deal? No matter, they love it now that Trump canceled it. Did they trash Obama for the Paris Accord? Yeah, but this is different because Trump, so we must now remain in it. Obamacare? It’s good now. Tax Cuts? Terrible now. Gun rights? Let’s abolish the 2nd amendment.

You get the picture. Those who scream about the virtue of their longstanding principles the most actually have none. The more insane they go in their opposition to Trump, the more TV hits they get so they just keep going and going and going.

Per The Hill, enter former McCain campaign flunky Rick Wilson, currently MSNBC’s house “conservative” and resident Trump bashing nutter from the supposed “right.”

When asked by MSNBC co-host John Heilemann during the program how the president can continue to “genuinely boast” about his high approval ratings among his party, Wilson said in response: “Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.”

Brilliant analysis there Rick. Please, do tells us more.

“They love the fact that Donald Trump finally gives them this sort of id of the Republican Party,” Wilson said. “They’re finally given permission to say the ugly things they kind of wanted in their secret hearts for a long time, and the monster got out of its cage in terms of a lot of the populist messaging that worked to motivate Republican primary voters for a long time.”

Got that? Republicans were just closet racists who now feel free to express the dark secrets of their hearts. Does this idiot actually give any examples? Nah. If he did, it’d probably be whining about Jim Acosta getting heckled and not actual examples of widespread racism within the Republican party’s voter base.

Did I mention Jim Acosta got heckled?

Getting back to Rick Wilson, things got interesting during his next comment when his jimmies reached maximum rustle status.

This led to a 7 second bleep out session while Wilson’s mouth was still moving.

“There’s just a huge courage deficit in this country,” Wilson went on to say, seeking to back his claim before his audio was abruptly muted on the program.

For the next seven seconds, Wilson could be seen talking while moving back and forth and waving his finger before the program’s audio returned.

After the audio returned, MSNBC co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Wilson: “Are you saying that on TV?”

Such bravery. I’m old enough to remember when a stalwart criticism of Trump coming from Rick Wilson and the like was that Trump is profane. One of the odd happenings during the Trump era is that his critics become even worse than him in their vitriol, the very vitriol they claimed was so immoral in the first place.

The same people who will lose their minds over generalizations of illegal immigrants have no problem generalizing all Republicans as toothless, racist morons. Consistency is for suckers I guess.

Rick Wilson went on to tweet what he actually said during the delay.

The more I see these people claim stuff like this, the more I think it’s BS to make themselves look more important than they are. If you really believe the country is at stake, why are you still making baseless anonymous claims? Name names tough guy. Who are these nebulous members of Congress that supposedly can’t stop calling you? There’s nothing to lose at this point by sharing. You are rooting for a Democratic takeover of the House in 2018 anyway.

Wilson made an earlier claim that Trump supporters want anyone “darker than a latte deported” and that administration officials enjoy separating children.

As you can see, this guy is a real model of civility. Muh principles, amiright?

The antics of this current crop of “conservative” Trump opponents exposes what we’ve known for a long time about many “thinkers” in the Republican party. They are fakes. It was always about media exposure and being in the right circles for these people. Their policy positions are wholly dependent on opposing the President and some of their verbal onslaughts are enough to make Donald J. Trump himself blush. They’ve become everything they claim to hate.

One day Trump is going to be gone and Rick Wilson, et al will attempt to come slinking back into the center of Republican thought. They should be kindly given a swift kick back out the door at that point.
